Hikers, bikers, and runners love
Windy Hill Open Space Preserve for the rolling grassy slopes leading up to the top of the hill, with its commanding views of the entire Bay Area and westward to the Pacific. I love it for the wooded trails on the Preserve's southern side, especially the Razorback Ridge and Lost Trails, with their abundance of flowers, big trees, and moist ferny dingles. Later in the spring the iris, columbines, and clintonia will offer up a visual feast. But late winter brings its own pleasures...
... trilliums of two kinds...
... currants...
... ginormous (8-foot) horsetails...
... and don't forget the fungi...
